Wet, but not a record

The 37.2 millimetres of rain that fell in central Shoreham yesterday was not a record amount, but it was the wettest August day for 16 years.  Herstmonceux (East Sussex) was the wettest place in Britain with 49.8 millimetres. Thorney Island (West Sussex) was the second wettest, and to cap a miserable day for holiday-makers in Sussex, Shoreham Airport was a distant third!
