Rain
Rainfall in July amounted to 8.6 millimetres (0.34 ins.), which was less than 20% of average for the month. Overall, it was the driest July in the area for 12 years. Measurable rain fell on 4 days, which was 6 days below the average, and wet days (when 1 millimetre (0.04 ins.), or more, of rain falls) numbered 2, and that was also 6 days below the average. Although there was a heavy shower in the early hours of the 1st, the resulting rain was before 0900 hours UTC, and therefore added to the total for the preceding month. Otherwise, the first 16 days of the month were dry. Short bursts of heavy rain overnight on the 17th/18th gave 1.8 millimetres (0.07 ins.), and further showery rain on the evening of the 19th added 0.8 millimeters (0.03 ins.) to the total. Showery rain occurred again from late morning until early afternoon on the 22nd. This added 5.8 millimetres (0.23 ins.) to the monthly total. The only other measurable rain was the 0.2 millimetres (0.01 ins.) that fell overnight on the 24th/25th.
Hail

Thunder
Thunderstorms occurred on 3 days during July. There was thunder and lightning to the west for 40 minutes on the evening of the 17th. A few rumbles of thunder occurred early to mid evening on the 19th, and finally, there was thunder late morning and early afternoon on the 22nd.

Wind
Pressure was higher than average across southern Britain, but with the centres usually positioned to the south of the country, it meant winds were predominantly from between southwest and northwest, with breezes from these quadrants accounting for over half of the daily readings. On about a quarter of the days, winds were mainly between southeast and northeast, with the remainder of the days having light and variable winds. Generally, winds were light, but southwesterly sea breezes were moderate or fresh at times in the afternoons, especially in the first and third weeks. At Shoreham Airport, there was a gust of 33 knots (38 mph) from the west-southwest early on the evening of the 19th as a cold front pushed the hot air eastwards into the continent, and southwesterly gusts of 30 to 31 knots (34-35 mph) occurred on the morning of the 25th; but these were the only gusts above 30 knots (34 mph) during July.
Fog
No fog was observed in this part of Shoreham.
